Editorial policy
SodaStream and Velta HydroSpark+ both make sparkling water, but they belong in different buying categories. SodaStream is a compact carbonator starting at $219.90. HydroSpark+ is a S$2,688 countertop reverse-osmosis purifier and dispenser that also pours hot, chilled, ambient, and sparkling water.
If carbonation is all you need, SodaStream is the sensible answer for most homes. HydroSpark+ only enters the conversation if you are already comparing water purifiers or hot-and-cold dispensers.
How We Compared Them
This is a desk comparison: we have not tested every SodaStream model ourselves. We checked the official Singapore product range, prices, cylinder information, and Velta's HydroSpark+ specifications on 14 July 2026.
Velta sells HydroSpark+, so we have a commercial interest in this comparison. That does not change the maths: SodaStream is the better-value choice if carbonation is all you want.
The Short Answer
- Choose SodaStream for the lowest upfront cost, a small footprint, manual models that need no power, and an established Singapore cylinder-exchange network.
- Choose HydroSpark+ if you want one countertop machine for RO-filtered ambient, hot, chilled, and sparkling water and would otherwise buy separate appliances to get them.
- Choose neither yet if you are unsure how often you will drink sparkling water. Start by estimating your current bottled-water use and the counter space you can give up.

Price and Ongoing Cost

At the time of checking, SodaStream Singapore listed:

| Model | Price | Controls |
|---|---|---|
| Terra | $219.90 | Manual button |
| Art | $289.90 | Manual lever |
| E-Terra | $369.90 | Electric, three fizz presets |
SodaStream Singapore's CO2 page listed a $29.50 exchange price and up to 60 litres per cylinder. Actual yield depends on how cold the water is and how strongly you carbonate it.
HydroSpark+
HydroSpark+ is S$2,688. That price buys purification, heating, chilling, and carbonation in one machine. Ongoing costs are the composite RO cartridge, CO2, and electricity.
Comparing CO2 cost alone misses the point. To cost HydroSpark+ fairly over five years, add its filter changes at the recommended interval, then weigh the total against the separate purifier, hot-water dispenser, chiller, and carbonator you would otherwise buy. If you do not need those, SodaStream wins easily.
Space and Setup
SodaStream is easier to place and move. The manual models need no outlet or plumbing, but you need room above the machine to operate it and space to store its bottle. If you want filtered water, you filter it separately before filling the bottle.
HydroSpark+ needs substantially more counter depth and a nearby power outlet. Tank mode lets you refill the removable 5L tank by hand, which can suit a rental or a counter without a convenient water line. Pipe-in mode feeds the machine straight from your water line, so there is no tank to refill, but it needs a suitable connection. A site visit confirms the clearances and the installation route.
Water Quality and Taste
PUB states that Singapore tap water is suitable for drinking directly without further filtration. So a purifier is a choice, not a safety requirement.
With SodaStream, the starting water is your choice: chilled tap water, water from an existing purifier, or bottled water. HydroSpark+ filters the source water through its composite RO cartridge before dispensing it. People choose that setup for taste, for low-TDS water, or for the convenience of one appliance doing several jobs, not because Singapore tap water is unsafe.
Which One Should You Buy?
SodaStream is the better fit when:
- You only want sparkling water.
- You want to spend under $400.
- You rent or move frequently.
- You already own a purifier or are happy with tap water.
- You want an easy local cylinder-exchange network.
- You have limited counter depth.
HydroSpark+ is the better fit when:
- You were already going to buy a water purifier and a hot-and-cold dispenser.
- You regularly use ambient, hot, chilled, and sparkling water.
- You prefer one supplier for the machine, filter, CO2, warranty, and servicing.
- A 220 × 508 mm countertop footprint works in your kitchen.
- You have compared the full five-year cost, not just the purchase price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Singapore tap water in a SodaStream? Yes. PUB says Singapore tap water is suitable for direct drinking. SodaStream's own advice is to carbonate plain, cold water and add flavour afterwards.
Does HydroSpark+ go under the sink? No. It is a countertop machine. It can run from its removable tank or a pipe-in connection.
Does HydroSpark+ need professional installation? Tank mode does not need a permanent water connection. Pipe-in mode does. Velta does a site visit first to check the water connection, power outlet, counter clearance, and drainage.
Can the two machines share CO2 cylinders? Not necessarily. Current SodaStream Terra, Art, and E-Terra models use the pink Quick Connect format. Each machine needs its own cylinder type and exchange arrangement.
Is HydroSpark+ worth S$2,688? Not for carbonation alone. It may be worth comparing if you are already planning to buy an RO purifier plus hot, chilled, and sparkling water. You can try all four water modes at our Keong Saik Road showroom and get the current filter and CO2 prices there.
