Does RO Water Remove Minerals?

Reverse osmosis reduces dissolved substances, including some calcium and magnesium. How much remains depends on source water, membrane performance and the complete system. A membrane does not separate substances into “good minerals” and “bad contaminants” by their marketing labels.

Water Can Contribute Minerals

Water’s contribution to calcium and magnesium intake varies with its composition and how much someone drinks. WHO discusses this contribution in its drinking-water publications. Food is also an important source; personal nutritional needs depend on the whole diet and individual circumstances.

Removing minerals from water does not by itself diagnose a deficiency. Equally, it would be inaccurate to say minerals in water never matter. Compare a documented mineral analysis rather than assuming every source has the same composition.

Why RO Water Tastes Different

Dissolved minerals can affect taste and scaling. Lower-mineral water may taste different from what you are used to. “Dead water” is not a scientific water category, and a different taste is not evidence of a health effect.

Choose Treatment for the Job

Sediment filters, carbon, ultrafiltration and RO perform different jobs. RO is designed to reduce dissolved solids as well as provide a particle barrier. A specific contaminant claim still needs evidence for the exact finished model, conditions and maintenance schedule.

Velta’s three purifiers share an RO foundation and differ in dispensing format and placement. Read how RO works and compare the purifier range against your practical requirements.

Does a Low TDS Reading Prove Safety?

No. TDS is a broad indication of dissolved solids. It does not identify individual contaminants, nutritional completeness or microbial safety.

Do I Need a Mineral Cartridge?

That depends on the application and your preferences. Check what it adds, the measured output and its maintenance requirements. An “alkaline” label alone does not establish a benefit.
