PM2.5 and Haze in Singapore

PM2.5 means airborne particles with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 micrometres or smaller. Smoke, traffic, combustion and atmospheric reactions can contribute. A haze episode is an outdoor-air event; indoor cooking and smoking can create particles too.

Start With Singapore’s Official Readings

NEA publishes the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) and one-hour PM2.5 concentrations. These describe different averaging periods. Read the current official guidance alongside the figures rather than interpreting visibility, smell or a consumer sensor as a complete health assessment.

Check NEA’s air-quality information and its linked current readings and advisories for your location. Follow the advice appropriate to your activities and circumstances.

How Particles Enter a Home

Outdoor particles enter through windows, doors, gaps and ventilation. Frying, incense and tobacco smoke can add particles indoors. During poor outdoor conditions, reduce unnecessary entry and avoid creating more smoke inside. Ventilate appropriately when outdoor conditions improve.

What a Purifier Can Do

A suitable purifier can reduce airborne particles that pass through it. The result depends on CADR, room volume, placement, fan speed, operating time, maintenance and continuing particle entry. Keep the inlet and outlet clear and follow the exact-model care instructions.

AirLab P80S’s brochure publishes a smoke CADR of 441 m³/h and coverage up to 62 m². These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee for every layout or fan setting. Our buying guide explains how to assess a room.

What It Cannot Do

A purifier cannot improve outdoor air, stop particles entering an open window or replace official haze advice. Particle capture does not establish gas removal. A nearby PM2.5 sensor does not represent every part of a large home.
